The first time I learned about a Croque Monsier was coincidentally the first time that I visited the famous Tartine in SF. That sandwich is to die for. Ever since then, I've had this unhealthy fascination with the open-faced sandwich - case in point, another one that I made last year - La Boulange's Open faced Turkey Tartine sandwich. From the creamy layer of bechamel sauce to the crusted cheese, it is pure perfection. Bechamel is the new mayo in my book!
