Ready to shake things up? Try this iconic Vietnamese Shaking Beef recipe! It’s an elevated dish that combines succulent, tender cubes of beef coated in a rich and savory marinade that’s an explosion of flavor.

Shaking Beef
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon fish sauce
¼ teaspoon sesame oil
1½ pounds steak, cut into 1-inch cubes

Watercress Salad
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon neutral-tasting oil (such as avocado oil)
½ teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1 red onion, thinly sliced
1 bunch watercress or upland cress (about 3 ounces greens)

  1. Marinate the beef: In a large bowl, stir together the oyster sauce, garlic, sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, and sesame oil to blend. Add the meat, stir to coat all the pieces evenly, and marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature.

  2. Make the watercress salad: In a bowl, whisk together the rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons water, sugar, oil, salt, and black pepper to taste. Toss with tomatoes, onion, and watercress.

  3. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add about half the beef and cook, turning occasionally, until the beef is well browned on all sides, 2 -3 minutes total. Transfer the meat to a plate with rice. Add the salad, enjoy!
