Vietnamese Meatballs │Bun Cha Hanoi

Barack Obama and Anthony Bourdain ate this Vietnamese Meatball dish, or Bun Cha Hanoi, together in Vietnam and today we’re making a homemade version!

Meatballs
1 lb ground pork
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon thick soy sauce
4 cloves finely minced garlic
1 shallot, finely minced
2 tablespoons lemongrass
2 tablespoons avocado oil

Fish sauce
2 cup water
4 tablespoons fish sauce
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoon rice vinegar

Pickled veggies
1 cup daikon, julienned
1 cup carrots, julienned
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon distilled vinegar

  1. For the meatballs- Add all the meatball ingredients, mix, and allow it to marinate for 15-20 minutes.

  2. Make fish sauce dipping sauce and set aside.

  3. For the pickled veggies- add salt to the julienned daikon and carrots. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse, then add sugar and distilled vinegar. Allow it to pickle for at least an hour.

  4. Grill the meatball on a cast iron. Place on a bed of t noodles and veggies. Serve with fish sauce and pickled daikon and carrots. Enjoy!
